Gonzalo Higuain's agent admits to Arsenal transfer being almost complete

Gonzalo Higuain agent/brother claims that a deal to take him to the Emirates is almost done as the striker is looking to leave Real Madrid for a new challenge.

The striker's brother Nicolas Higuain told Italian website www.tuttomercatoweb.com: 'If Tevez joins Juve, is Higuain closer to Arsenal? I think so.

'Juventus is a great club, but Gonzalo is too expensive for them.

'Napoli are a strong team. Having said that, I cannot deny that Gonzalo is now close to Arsenal.'

Yesterday Tevez did complete his move to Juventus which now means that the deal for Higuain is one step closer to being complete. So this could be the huge news for Arsenal and a great way to start off the summer for the Gunners and could pave the way for more big money transfers in which Fellani has been heavily linked to the Arsenal in recent weeks.

John Hartson : Arsenal should sign Wayne Rooney

Former Arsenal player John Hartson believes that the Gunners should do their up most to sign Manchester United's Wayne Rooney.

"I think Rooney would be a fantastic signing," the Welshman told Goal. "He's actually coming into his prime.

"He's only about 27, 28 and you don't play your best football until this stage of your career so, in terms of his experience and everything he's done at Manchester United, I think he would be a brilliant signing and Arsenal fans would welcome him into the side."

"I think you will see Rooney take up a deeper role because of his experience and when he drops into that little hole behind the striker, he gives the centre-backs a real problem because he needs to be marked, and you couldn't let a player like him come in on the half-turn and face your back four because he will just cause riots in there.

"He can pick people out, he can slide balls through, break the centre backs by getting between the lines and by playing balls over the top.

"He has unbelievable individual ability and if they can find the right position for him, he'd be brilliant. Ryan Giggs and Roy Keane both dropped into deeper roles as they got older and wiser.

"Arsenal fans are used to players like Rooney. They've had Dennis Bergkamp, Liam Brady, Anders Limpar, they've had great ball players over the years and Rooney would be a magic signing, I'm a big fan of his.

"So, for me, I would just break the bank and go and get Rooney if United will let him go."


Harton wants Arsenal to finally  end the eight years without a trophy :

"The only thing that is letting them down right now is the fact they haven't won a major trophy for six or seven seasons which is disappointing.

"They've come close, they've hit the post if you like, they've lost in cup finals and when you talk about Arsenal, you're so used to talking about them winning things but they've not won anything.

"They've qualified for the Champions League, which is a great achievement for many years now on the spin so Wenger deserves huge credit for that but they're still a massive club and, in my opinion, they will have no problem attracting world-class players."

Ian Wright beleives that Arsenal will stuggle to compete in the transfer market against the top teams below you will find out what he had to say on the matter.

“Arsene Wenger’s future at the club is secure, because he has done so much for the club since he got there," said Wright, who was speaking at a charity event at the Marina Bay Sands resort in Singapore.

“I feel that the quality of signings over the past few years is the reason why they haven’t won anything in eight years.

“They have to sign players with the right qualities, but they are going into a team to help young players who are coming through.

“I think it’s going to be harder for Arsenal because Manchester United has a new manager, and so do Chelsea," he warned.

"Manchester City have a point to prove, and even Tottenham are coming through. It’s going to be hard to try to attract the kind of players that’s not going to want to go to those other clubs."

Mirror Reports That Arsenal are closing in for Gonzalo Higuain

Gonzalo Higuain has agreed to come to Arsenal as the club-record £22million deal nears conclusion.

Real Madrid striker Higuain and his agent father Jorge are believed to have agreed personal terms in excess of £130,000-a-week as Arsenal prepare to smash their transfer record and wage structure.

The Spanish giants circulated Higuain's name for transfer last month and gave him the green light to negotiate a move away from Real Madrid this summer.

Higuain is keen to move to the Emirates after two rounds of talks with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger who hopes to wrap up the formalities before the club's Far East tour in three weeks' time.

Olivier Giroud believes Arsenal can challenge for the title next season

Ahead of the new season upon us Olivier Giroud is confident that Arsenal can challenge for the title next season if they can get off to a good start.

"If we start better than we did this season, I know that we will compete for the title next year because we are used to playing together now and have improved as a team," he said.

"We have also improved as individuals throughout the season, especially the newcomers like Santi (Cazorla), Lukas (Podolski) and me."

"It was not easy at all. It was a massive challenge," he said."I hope that as early as my second season, I can play week in week out and keep scoring regularly because it's key for a striker.


"I have scored fewer compared to last season in Montpellier but the ratio, minutes played to goals scored, is good.

"I scored 17 goals in all competitions and gave 10 assists which, for a first season in England, is good. I am happy with the stats.

"However, you can always do better and I know I can do better and there is a lot of room for improvement. That is why I am already looking forward to next season."

Arsene Wenger is still the right man to turn Arsenal around

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis said that he believes manager Arsene Wenger is committed to the club for "the long term", despite media reports linking him with a switch to Paris Saint-Germain.

Wenger, 63, will embark upon the last season of his current contract in August and with Arsenal's trophy drought now stretching to eight years, there has been speculation he could be tempted to leave north London for pastures new.

However, with Arsenal having booked a Champions League berth for a 16th consecutive season, Gazidis believes Wenger remains the right man to take the club forward.

"We think we have got a fantastic manager. We hope that he wants to do what he is doing for the long term. I believe he does," Gazidis said.

"I think he is still ambitious, still driven and sees the potential of the club as he looks forward and I think he is very excited by that. We have a great relationship and he has a great relationship with the board as well.
"So, quietly and at the right time, I think we will make an announcement on that (Wenger's future) when things are all put in place."

Despite the prospect of another Champions League campaign to look forward to next season, providing Arsenal successfully navigate the play-off round, Gazidis accepts that the club must aim their sights higher.

"We want to be competing at the top of the game and in order to do that you have to be in the Champions League, so we are pleased to be qualified, or at least, for the qualification games," Gazidis said.

"But it is not ultimately where we want to be with moving the club forward. We want to be a club that is competing at the very top end of the game and that means competing to win the Premier League and competing to win the Champions League."

Gazidis also expressed hope that Arsenal's prudent financial management and reluctance to build up debts in pursuit of success would pay dividends in the years to come, as UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules come into force.

He said: "The critical thing now as we look ahead over the next season and the season after is our developing financial capability, which will give us a lot more options than in recent years."

Gazidis recent statement was succeeded by reports from various that the club is due a big announcement shortly, but many where quick to debunk such claims and opines its all a PR stunt by Arsenal to hit/attain a projected target of season ticket renewals, which are soon to reach deadline. Time will tell.
